WTJX - TV/Channel 12 is proud to present a two-part series that explores the controversial life of Camille Pissarro, and the numerous stylistic changes reflected in his work.
The series has been produced to give Virgin Islands residents a historical perspective on this famous St. Thomas-born artist and encourages those who travel abroad to seek the artist's work. Producer Germaine Griffith of WTJX hopes to dispel what she sees as a general lack of knowledge about the artist. "The average Virgin Islander over 30 could probably point out the Pissarro Building, located on St. Thomas’ Dronnigens Gade. However, very few know that he was born on the island, and fewer know about his life or can identify his work from the islands or the Impressionist period. His paintings and sketches are found in major museums on five of the seven continents. Pissarro lived an interesting, colorful life of contrasts, traveled through Latin America and Europe. The programs will give WTJX a chance to highlight our islands’ contribution to art history."
While reproductions and art prints are available throughout the islands, residents will have a unique opportunity to examine a number of original works during the Olana exhibit. For more information about the broadcast, contact WTJX at (340)774-2655. |
